Towerbrook takes majority stake in Rael

UNITED STATES Consumer Products / Personal & Household / Hygiene & Beauty Brands REV 30m USD - 300m USD

Context

TowerBrook Capital Partners announced a strategic investment in Rael on 24 August 2026, alongside co-investors. Chief executive and co-founder Yanghee Paik continued to lead the business, and John Replogle was appointed chairman of the board, having previously served as chief executive of Burt’s Bees and Seventh Generation and led Unilever’s North American skincare operations. Established in 2017 by three Korean American founders and headquartered in Los Angeles with an office in Seoul, Rael develops and sells feminine hygiene products, skincare and hormonal wellness supplements. Its formulations use certified organic cotton and omit added fragrance, and its range extends from pads and tampons to blemish patches and supplements organised around the phases of the menstrual cycle. Distribution expanded sharply before the transaction. The brand was stocked in more than 20,000 American retail locations during 2025 and in over 40,000 across the United States and Korea by the time of the investment, through Target, Walmart, CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens and Ulta Beauty, alongside e-commerce and a subscription service. That combination of channels is unusual in the category. Feminine hygiene has long been dominated by a small number of multinational brands occupying mass retail shelves, while newer entrants have generally remained online. Securing placement across mass retail, drugstores and specialty beauty simultaneously is what distinguished the company, and it is where the capital was directed. Rael had raised 59 million dollars before this transaction, including a Series B of 35 million in 2022 led by Colopl Next and Signite Partners, with Unilever Ventures and Mirae Asset among earlier investors. Jefferies acted as financial adviser to Rael, with Sidley Austin as legal counsel, while Benesch advised TowerBrook.

The acquisition of Rael is part of the growth strategy of Towerbrook, which already has several external growth operations under its belt, notably ID Unlimited in 2026.
