PORTOBELLO CAPITAL takes majority stake in MARTINEZ OTERO
Context
Portobello Capital took control of Martínez Otero, the Galician manufacturer of furniture for retail and hospitality interiors, acquiring a majority stake through its Fund V. The purchase of the family-owned business, held by its third generation, was negotiated during the first half of the year and completed alongside Martínez Otero’s own first acquisition, the integration of Grupo Bermúdez & Solutions. Shareholders linked to the founding family kept a significant stake and stayed involved in running the company, with Alejandro Valladares Durán as chairman and chief executive. The combined group generated revenue of €100–200M and an EBITDA of €5–25M, an EBITDA margin of [members only]. Martínez Otero brought its industrial capacity and its production sites in Spain, Morocco and the Dominican Republic, while Grupo Bermúdez & Solutions, a specialist in technological furniture for shops and in the full execution of complex projects, added bespoke manufacturing capability. Together they could take on larger and more complex fit-outs for retail, hotel, residential and yacht clients. Portobello’s investment was intended to fund the group’s international expansion, strengthen its industrial capabilities and support continued spending on innovation and technology alongside further acquisitions.
