VIAPLAY NEDERLAND acquired by VIDEOLAND

NETHERLANDS Media & Internet / Content & Publishing / Audiovisual Production EV €100–350M

Context

Viaplay Group agreed on 22 October 2026 to sell Viaplay Nederland, its Dutch streaming and broadcasting business, to Videoland, the streaming service owned by DPG Media, at an enterprise value of €142m on a cash-free, debt-free basis, an EV/revenue multiple of 1.0x on net sales of €149m. The perimeter covered the subscription service, its subscriber base and its portfolio of Dutch sports broadcasting rights, including Formula 1, Premier League football, darts and hockey, together with around fifty employees transferring with the business. Completion remained subject to regulatory clearance and to approval by Viaplay’s lenders. For Viaplay, the sale continued a withdrawal from markets outside its Nordic base, where it holds the scale to operate profitably, and the proceeds were to accelerate the reduction of its debt. The Dutch competition authority cleared the transaction, finding that enough competition remained among streaming services, in the bidding for sports rights and in advertising sales. It noted that the rights held by Viaplay Nederland run for fixed terms, the Formula 1 licence until 2029, and return to the market on expiry, so that the acquisition gave DPG Media no lasting hold over them.

Target

Founded in 2021 and based in Amsterdam, Viaplay Nederland operates a subscription streaming service in the Netherlands. It buys the Dutch broadcasting rights to sporting events from their owners, produces the coverage around them and streams it live and on demand to its subscribers, alongside films and series. Its sports offer covers motorsport, football, darts and hockey. It earns revenue from subscription fees and from advertising sold around its programming, and the rights it holds are licensed for fixed periods, after which they return to the market.
