Synova takes majority stake in netIP
Context
Synova entered into an agreement to acquire netIP from Adelis Equity Partners, investing through its fifth fund, with completion subject to regulatory approvals. The management team led by co-chief executives Brian Vesterbæk and Joakim Halvorsen reinvested alongside the firm, together with a broad group of employee shareholders. Established in 1996 and headquartered at Thisted in northern Jutland, netIP manages the information technology of small and medium-sized Danish businesses. It operates their networks, servers and cloud environments, secures them against intrusion and supports their users, acting as the outsourced technology department for companies without one of their own. It serves approximately 2,700 clients through more than 270 employees across eleven locations, and recorded an EBITDA of DKK 50–100M for the year to 30 June 2026, a third consecutive record and an increase of 17.8%. The company operates on a local-for-local basis, maintaining engineers within reach of each client while drawing on a central technology platform for the specialist capabilities a single office could not sustain. Retention reflects that structure: net revenue retention stands above 100%, meaning existing clients spend more each year than the one before, and the business has grown in every year since 2007. Demand follows a structural difficulty facing smaller companies. Cybersecurity obligations, cloud migration and now artificial intelligence require expertise that an organisation of fifty or a hundred employees cannot recruit, while the consequences of failure in each are no less severe than for a large corporation. Synova intended to fund recruitment of specialists, investment in the platform and the commercial organisation, with particular attention to cybersecurity, cloud, data and automation, alongside further acquisitions of regional technology businesses, a strategy netIP had already pursued.
