CAMPOLLO acquired by CARGILL
Context
Cargill's acquisition of Campollo, a Colombian chicken and protein producer with over two decades of local market experience, was announced on 30 November 2018 for an undisclosed sum, marking the US agri-food group's second poultry purchase in Colombia following its June 2017 deal for Pollos Bucanero. Campollo's products are a top choice among consumers and retailers nationwide, and its operations extend beyond Colombia into Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, mirroring Cargill's existing protein footprint across those same markets. Jorge Ivan Duque, general manager of Pollos Bucanero and a 13-year veteran of the poultry sector in Central America and Colombia, will continue leading the expanded business. Cargill will welcome Campollo's more than 2,500 employees, lifting its Colombian headcount above 7,500, while Cargill Global Poultry employs over 35,000 people across 14 countries. Xavier Vargas, president of Cargill Protein Latin America, said the group will bring its experience working in protein across four continents for more than 50 years to deliver consistent, high-quality products tailored to local flavours, and Duque added that the acquisition complements and enhances Cargill's product portfolio while expanding its reach to more of the Colombian market. The deal capped a busy week for Cargill, its third investment in seven days, after announcing more than US of investment in meat production in the Philippines and Thailand and reaffirming its commitment to grow operations in Malaysia.
