ROYAL BAM GROUP invests in VAN LEEUWEN SLEUFLOZE TECHNIEKEN

NETHERLANDS Construction / Public Works / Utilities Networks (Water/Fiber) EV €100–350M

Context

Royal BAM Group agreed with the shareholders of Van Leeuwen Sleufloze Technieken to acquire a 40% stake in the Dutch trenchless drilling contractor, as a strategic participation rather than a full takeover. The investment was priced at an EV/EBITDA multiple of 10x–18x, on expected EBITDA of €5–25M for 2026 and net sales of €60m, an EBITDA margin of [members only]. Completion was expected in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary conditions. The two companies had worked together as partners since 2014, and the stake formalised that relationship. For BAM, it secured access to specialist drilling capacity in a market where underground installation work is constrained by the difficulty of opening streets and crossing waterways. The investment came alongside a separately announced agreement to acquire A.Hak, another infrastructure contractor, both directed at the Dutch energy and water networks, where grid operators have committed to large-scale reinforcement programmes.

By taking control of Van Leeuwen Sleufloze Technieken, Royal Bam Group continues its expansion strategy. Previously, the group had completed 3 acquisitions, including Gebroeders Blokland in 2026.

Target

Founded in 1998, Van Leeuwen Sleufloze Technieken installs underground cables and pipelines without digging trenches. Its crews use horizontal directional drilling, boring a path beneath rivers, roads, railways and built-up areas, then pulling the cable or pipe through it, which avoids opening the surface along the route. It works on energy and water networks, carrying out the crossings and connections that network operators and project developers require, and operates its own fleet of drilling rigs. The company is based in the Netherlands.
