HOUTINDUSTRIE STAM & LANDMAN acquired by ROYAL BAM GROUP

NETHERLANDS Construction / Finishing Works / External Joinery REV 1m EUR - 20m EUR

Context

Royal BAM Group acquired all the shares of Houtindustrie Stam & Landman, the Heerhugowaard-based manufacturer of wooden window frames and doors, from its owners in a deal announced in March 2021. The purchase was made through its subsidiary BAM Bouw en Vastgoed Specials, and was carried out alongside the acquisition of Gevelelementen Noord-Holland, the facade element producer based at the same site. Together the two businesses employed about 100 people and generated annual turnover of around 20 million euros, under managing director Edward Zandbergen. Both companies had already supplied BAM's Dutch residential division, and in 2018 they had invested with BAM in a bricklaying robot system used to clad prefabricated facade elements with brick slips for renovation projects. The acquisition fitted BAM's strategy of building more of its homes in factories rather than on site, as work in the Dutch residential market moved into manufacturing plants where conditions can be controlled. By bringing joinery and prefabricated module production into its own design and construction process, BAM aimed to deliver sustainable and affordable homes faster.

Target

Founded in 1983 in Heerhugowaard, the Netherlands, Houtindustrie Stam & Landman manufactures wooden window frames and doors for the construction industry. It machines and assembles timber into finished joinery at its own plant, where the frames are glazed, painted and fitted with hardware before delivery to building sites. Its customers are housebuilders, developers and contractors working on new housing and renovation projects in the Netherlands.
