MARIUS PEDERSEN (CZECH & SLOVAK OPERATIONS) acquired by PAPREC

DENMARK Utilities (Regulated Infrastructure) / Waste Management / Collection & Recycling EV €500M–1.5bn

Context

Paprec signed an agreement on 14 October 2026 to acquire all the waste management operations of the Danish group Marius Pedersen in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where it had been present for more than thirty years. The business was valued at an enterprise value of €500M–1.5bn, an EV/EBITDA multiple of 5x–12x, on revenue of €400m and an EBITDA of €100–200M, an EBITDA margin of [members only]. The perimeter covered 49 subsidiaries and joint ventures employing around 4,500 people, of which more than 1,000 in Slovakia. Together they treated close to 3 million tonnes of waste a year for more than 2,300 municipalities and some 35,000 industrial customers, operating 28 treatment facilities and 15 sorting centres. The sale followed a competitive process run by KPMG, in which Paprec’s offer was judged the most attractive on both financial and industrial grounds, ahead of the waste operators FCC Environment and Remondis and of vehicles controlled by the Czech investors Daniel Křetínský, Pavel Tykač and Karel Pražák. The purchase came a few weeks after Paprec agreed to take majority control of Brantner Green Solutions, the Austrian group operating in Austria, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Serbia. Together the two deals anchored the French group in central and eastern Europe, alongside its positions in Spain, Portugal and Italy, and were expected to take it close to 5 billion euros of revenue by the end of 2026, of which 2 billion outside France, with nearly 30,000 employees and more than 800 sites in 15 countries. Paprec based its case on the European Union’s circular economy rules, which set a 65% municipal waste recycling target and a landfill rate below 10% by 2035, and on the close to 3 billion euros of investment planned by the Czech and Slovak governments in new sorting, recycling and energy recovery capacity. Completion remained subject to clearance by the competition authorities of both countries, with the parties expecting it within months, and Paprec secured financing from banks with which it has long-standing relationships.

By taking control of Marius Pedersen, Paprec continues its expansion strategy. Previously, the group had completed 3 acquisitions, including Gbp Metal Group in 2026.

Target

Marius Pedersen collects, sorts, recycles and treats waste for municipalities and industrial customers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It runs household waste collection for local authorities, handles sorted packaging, construction debris and commercial waste, and operates the sorting centres, composting platforms and treatment facilities where that waste is processed. Its customers are municipalities, which contract it to run their collection services, and manufacturers and businesses disposing of their own waste. The company belongs to a Danish group and operates through local companies across both countries.
