LANGFORD'S acquired by Literacy Capital / RED SKY FOOD GROUP
Context
Literacy Capital and Mark Chantler acquired a 50:50 joint ownership in The Welsh Sausage Company, trading as Langford's, on 9 April 2025. Founders John Langford and Christine Gethin sold their entire shareholding to enter retirement. The transaction formed the platform acquisition for Red Sky Food Group, a holding entity established by Literacy Capital and Kingsford Investments to consolidate manufacturing businesses in the protein sector. Co-investor Mark Chantler, who had overseen Meadow Foods until 2024, became Executive Chairman of Red Sky Food Group at completion. Jon Faasse was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the parent group. Christine Gethin's son, Josh Gethin, remained with the business as Managing Director of Langford's and rolled equity into the holding structure. At the time of the transaction, Langford's operated an automated processing facility in Welshpool equipped with a single line producing 500 sausages per minute, with factory capacity prepared to integrate a second manufacturing line. Red Sky Food Group financed the buyout through equity commitments from the joint venture partners.
