Inprova Group takes majority stake in Housemark
Context
Inprova Group became the majority shareholder in Housemark in August 2026, with the Chartered Institute of Housing and the National Housing Federation, which had owned the business jointly, keeping minority stakes and continuing to support it. NVM Private Equity had backed Inprova since November 2022. Housemark collects performance data from more than 350 social housing landlords, between them responsible for 3.9 million homes, and turns it into comparisons each can measure itself against. Members submit figures on repair times, rent arrears, void periods, complaints and operating costs, more than 3,500 datasets a year, which Housemark standardises so that organisations of different sizes and housing stock can be compared on the same basis. It has done this for over 25 years, and extended into consultancy, events and training for the sector. That data has become more valuable as regulation has tightened. English social landlords now report against consumer standards enforced by the regulator, and must demonstrate value for money with evidence rather than assertion. A landlord whose repair times sit in the worst quartile needs to know it before the regulator does, and the only way to know is to compare. For Inprova, which buys on behalf of the same landlords, the two activities meet at the same point. Its procurement data shows what a landlord spends; Housemark’s shows what it achieves. A landlord can see not only that its repairs cost more than its peers’ but whether they are also slower, and act on both through one supplier. The ownership change is notable in itself: Housemark had belonged to the two bodies representing the sector, and passes to a commercial operator, which keeps them as shareholders.
