BOWMARK takes majority stake in SFG20

UNITED KINGDOM Software / Industry-Specific Software / Construction / Real Estate REV £5–25M

Context

Bowmark Capital acquired a significant stake in SFG20, the UK standard for building maintenance specification, in a deal announced in July 2026 and completed after regulatory approval. The Building Engineering Services Association, which had owned SFG20 since establishing it in 1990, kept a holding alongside Bowmark, and Kirsty Cogan stayed on as chief executive. At the time of the deal, SFG20 generated revenue of £13.7m and its platform was used by more than 1,000 organisations across the industry. Bowmark had already invested in businesses serving the built environment, including BCIS, which supplies independent construction cost data, and Eque2, which develops enterprise resource planning software for construction companies. Investec advised the sellers on the M&A side, with A&O Shearman and Osborne Clarke as legal counsel, while KPMG advised Bowmark, with Stephenson Harwood as legal counsel.

Target

Established in 1990, SFG20 publishes the industry standard for building maintenance in the United Kingdom, delivered through a software platform. Its database holds maintenance schedules that translate legislation, codes of practice and manufacturer requirements into the specific tasks engineers must carry out on each type of building asset, and how often. Facilities managers, building owners, contractors and consultants use it to plan, deliver and audit their maintenance work and to demonstrate compliance. The schedules are updated as legislation, regulation and industry practice change, and the company also provides tools that map a customer’s asset register to the relevant schedules.
