Skjodt-Barrett Ingredients acquired by California Custom Fruits & Flavors

CANADA Food Processing / Ingredients REV 1m USD - 100m USD

Context

California Custom Fruits & Flavors acquired the Custom Nutritional Ingredients division of Skjodt-Barrett Foods on 26 October 2026. The division continued to trade under the Skjodt-Barrett name as a unit of the buyer, led by its president Guy Burton. CCFF is controlled by Peak Rock Capital, which had acquired the Irwindale, California company in March 2024. Founded in 1985, the division develops and manufactures the components that go inside snack and nutrition bars: the caramel layers and fruit pastes that separate them, the syrups and binders that hold grains, nuts and crisps together, and the glazes and icings applied on top. Each is formulated to a customer’s specification and engineered to hold up over a bar’s shelf life, where moisture migrating between layers softens what should stay crisp. It works increasingly on recipes with more protein, less sugar and shorter ingredient lists, and supplies brands, contract manufacturers and foodservice operators across North America. CCFF develops and manufactures custom fruit preparations, purees, variegates and flavour systems for dairy processors, bakeries, ice cream brands and beverage manufacturers, and counts several of the largest North American quick-service restaurant chains among its customers. The two product ranges address the same buyers without overlapping: a brand developing a new bar needs both the fruit preparation and the binding system, and could previously source them only from separate suppliers. The purchase also added manufacturing capacity on a second site, with production lines suited to viscous syrups and confectionery coatings that CCFF did not operate, and gave it redundancy across plants. CCFF continued to look for further acquisitions.
