Schumann & Sohn acquired by Turpaz Industries
Context
Turpaz Industries acquired the entire share capital of Schumann & Sohn on 7 November 2024 through a wholly owned subsidiary, for €10–30M funded by bank borrowing. Signature and completion occurred on the same day. The selling shareholders stayed in their roles through a transition period to assist the integration. Established in 1948, Schumann formulates and produces flavourings for food manufacturers and makers of nutritional supplements, with a particular position in sweet applications. Production, development, application work and sales occupy a single site at Karlsruhe, where it employs 21 people. Its customers are concentrated in Germany. Revenue amounted to €5–25M for 2023, with 6.7 million euros recorded over the first nine months of 2024, at a margin comparable to that of Turpaz’s taste division. Germany is the largest food manufacturing market in Europe, and flavour houses serving it tend to be national: a compound is developed alongside the customer’s own technologists, over months, which favours suppliers within reach of the factory. Turpaz had no German production before this purchase, and acquiring one gave it both the site and the customer relationships that go with it. It was the group’s fourth acquisition of 2024, within a programme through which it has entered successive European markets, each time retaining the management of the business acquired.
By taking control of Schumann & Sohn, Turpaz Industries continues its expansion strategy. Previously, the group had completed 2 acquisitions, including Clarys & Willich in 2024.
