Context
TA Associates completed a strategic growth investment in Rocscience, the Toronto-based developer of geotechnical software, in a transaction announced on January 8, 2024. The investment marked the company's first institutional funding round, with TA taking a stake in the business founded in 1996 by Dr. John Curran. Founded in 1996 and based in Toronto, Rocscience develops 2D and 3D modelling software for geotechnical engineering. Its programs analyse how soil and rock behave under load, covering slope stability, excavation and tunnel design, foundations, retaining structures and groundwater flow, so that engineers can test a design before anything is built. Its customers are civil and mining engineering firms, consultancies, contractors, mining companies and universities across several continents, which license the software and the technical support that goes with it.
