Bruil acquired by Holcim Group
Context
Holcim signed an agreement on 2 November 2026 to acquire Bruil from the founding family, subject to customary conditions and regulatory clearances, with completion expected before the end of the year. Succession lay behind the sale. Chief executive Alfons van Woensel joined the management of Holcim’s German and Dutch organisation, and the Bruil and Coba brands were to be retained. Founded 120 years ago and based at Ede, Bruil produces ready-mixed concrete delivered to site, dry mortars supplied in bags and silos, precast concrete elements cast in its own works, and finishing materials for interiors. It operates ten production sites across the south and centre of the Netherlands, employs more than 250 people and generates revenue of €100–200M. Its customers are contractors and builders’ merchants. Ready-mixed concrete is a local business by necessity. It sets within hours of leaving the plant, which limits delivery to a radius of perhaps thirty kilometres, so a producer’s position depends on where its plants stand rather than on national scale. Ten sites give coverage of the Dutch construction market that cannot be replicated without building or buying the same network. Holcim already operated in the Netherlands through its German subsidiary, employing around 1,800 people across the two countries. The purchase broadened that position from basic materials towards the finished products and integrated solutions it has been assembling, part of the Building Solutions segment it intends to expand by 2030. It was one of several European acquisitions announced by the group that year, alongside Fermacell and the completion of its purchase of Xella.
By taking control of Bruil, Holcim Group continues its expansion strategy. Previously, the group had completed 3 acquisitions, including Fermacell in 2026.
