EQUINOX GLOBAL acquired by Nexus Underwriting
Context
Nexus Group acquired Equinox Global and all other Equinox group companies, in an agreement announced on 17 July 2017 and exchanged with completion scheduled for later that year. Beazley, previously a shareholder in Equinox Global, was to continue providing underwriting capacity under a ten-year underwriting support agreement. The founding shareholders and management team of Steen Parsholt, Mike Holley, Rob Crampton and Vicki Harrison stayed with the business, Parsholt as chairman and Holley as chief executive, and the founders of Equinox and Beazley became shareholders in Nexus. Bringing Equinox Global together with Nexus CIFS was expected to create a trade credit business with gross written premium of £1–100M, the two books being complementary with little overlap in line sizes or geographical focus. The purchase came a week after Nexus acquired Vectura Underwriting. At the time, the group traded from offices in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, the United States and Hong Kong, and employed more than 135 people.

Target
Established in 2009, Equinox Global underwrites trade credit insurance, which protects companies against the risk that their customers fail to pay for goods or services delivered on credit terms. It writes cover for larger corporates and multinationals, offering non-cancellable credit limits, syndication with other credit insurers and a credit limit service run through its Equinox Approach online portal. The company operates as a managing general agent and registered Lloyd’s coverholder, underwriting on behalf of insurers rather than carrying the risk on its own balance sheet, from offices in London, New York, Paris, Hamburg and Amsterdam.
